Mustachioed pundit and columnist Cal Thomas, who is a member of the Heritage Foundation, has taken Senator John McCain to task for joining the “Global Warming Cult.”
“McCain would have done better to push back against the global warming cult and conduct a raid on the cultists similar to what Texas authorities did to the FLDS polygamists. Instead of buying into the claims of global warming alarmists who seek more control over our lives through big government intrusion, McCain should demand a debate on the issue.”
According to Mr. Thomas, the “global warming cult” or “global warming alarmists” seek to convince the world that climate change is a significant problem for the purpose of gaining totalitarian-like control over the world’s citizens. Pretty sneaky. But luckily we have loads of scientists and columnists like Mr. Thomas to sound the alarm before we all get suckered into this grand conspiracy.
Nevermind that most global warming “skeptics” are somehow linked to ExxonMobil. And just ignore the fact that Cal Thomas’ most recent column before this one was the aptly titled “In Defense of Big Oil.”
If it were up to us here at Rebel, we would wholeheartedly agree to the debate on global warming evidence which Mr. Thomas suggests. However, there would have to be a few conditions:
No one who is on the ExxonMobil payroll would be invited.
And
No one who has ties to “think tanks” which get their funding from oil companies (the Heritage Foundation) would be allowed to participate either.
We’ll wait to hear how many will be able to attend, but we won’t be holding our collective breath.

Never mind that global warming scientists only get their research funding if they believe in global warming.
Never mind that scientists are threatened with the loss of funding and ostracism from the scientific community if they express skepticism.
And never mind that both sides are paid in United States Dollars, but oh, I forgot, when green scientists are paid their money is sanctified and cannot effect their research but when skeptics are paid it’s dirty, unclean money that sullies their mind.
Ummmm
a) what does the nationality of the currency have to do with it?
b) on what are we basing our statement that “scientists only get their funding if they believe in global warming?”
c) what part of “melting ice caps” don’t you understand?
When they are funded by ExxonMobil and their interests lie with their benefactors these “scientists” cease being entirely objective.
And as for scientists essentially “toeing the line” on global warming so that they can continue to receive generous grants, that’s bull shit. A consensus has been reached by objective scientists doing research, and anyway it seems that ExxonMobil is more than willing to fund any global warming skeptic that walks in the door, no matter how thin their credentials.FYI– you don’t get rich doing research in a lab or pouring over CO2 graphs. Unless maybe you skew them to make ExxonMobil look good.
Thanks for stopping by.
Hiiii. :]] MYSPACE IS THE DEVIL
Personally, i don’t really think it matters, whether or not global warming and climate change exists. Instead of pointless and time-wasting squabbling over whether it exists, authorities should be doing risk assessments of taking action and not taking action to prevent climate change (well, at least try). And the more time spent on debating, the more time we waste. We need a concrete decision made right now. Do we let “nature” take its course or do we try to do something to stop it? The rest, it’s got nothing to do with science, it’s perception, money and politics. After all science is ever changing and all is based on human experiments, with human errors. Hence, we can never be sure.
But action, not talk is needed at this point. The more time we waste, the less time we have to take action. In history, there have been many drastic and sudden changes in climate all over the world. The earth does not need saving. We and other species do. Remember, decisions we make now will not affect us, it will determine the future of our children.
quit accusing people of why their claims are false. i want some evidence from both sides so that i can make my decision. this is no longer science, but politics. i dont give a care if al gore is a jerk. I WANT EVIDENCE, NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
okay calm your horsies down man. I also kinda agree though i don’t know which side to take :\
But it seems so over exaggerated thats its suuper serious

If scientists with ties to Exxon-Mobile are disqualified, then scientists with ties to Greenpeace should also be excluded. If we go tit for tat there will be nobody left to debate the topic. Science is science regardless of the source. If Exxon has people who can demonstrate BEYOND A DOUBT that man made global warming is a fallacy, who cares where they get their funding? All we need is a fair and impartial peer review of the data. Ad homimen attacks against one side of the argument is just another version of the tired old class warfare game the Greens/Liberals/Democrats/USA is to Blame crowd loves to trot out to whip the lazy and uninformed into a frenzy. Thank God there are still some of us who see through that Trojan Horse and can conceive the issue as a whole without the bias the Left would prefer us to see it through.
Thanks for stopping by Steve. I understand the argument you present in the first half of your comment (the second half kinda gets into a cliche rant against the left, but that’s not really important). You say:
That’s the problem Steve, they haven’t proved “beyond a doubt” that global warming is a fallacy, far from it. The scientists working for Exxon, the so called skeptics, play loose with the facts and cherry pick data to give credence to their skepticism. And as for Greenpeace, I agree with you to a point that they could be similar to Exxon, except for the fact that they are a non-profit organization, meaning they have far less power to influence scientists and far less reason to do so. Have a good one.
Ooohhh… watch out. Big Oil. Idiot.
